Urine of Patients with Malignant Pancreatic and Biliary Fragment of Human Choriogonadotropin in the Serum

چکیده
Human Choriogonadotropin (hCG), its free /} subunit (£fh( '(>), and the core ,(h( (. fragment (c/3hCG) were measured by highly sensitive timeresolved immunofluorometric assays in the serum and urine of 29 pa tients with pancreatic cancer, 7 patients with biliary cancer, and 45 patients with benign pancreatic or biliary diseases. The results were compared with those of an ageand sex-matched reference population of nonpregnant women and men. Of the various forms of hCG assayed in serum, /?hCG showed the best diagnostic accuracy, and c/3hCG was the best marker in urine. Elevated serum concentrations of /ShCG were observed in 72% of the patients with pancreatic cancer, in 6 of 7 patients with biliary cancer, and in 9% of those with benign disorders. The serum concentrations of c/3hCG were elevated in 45%, 57%, and 2%, respec tively, and those in urine in 55%, 71%, and 11%, respectively. The molar concentrations of c/JhCG in serum were mostly lower than those of ,1M (,. Thus i;h< (i secreted into serum appears to be the main source of c/ShCG in urine. Provided that they are measured by sufficiently sensi tive and specific assays, ßhCGin serum and c/ShCG in urine appear to be useful markers for pancreatic and biliary cancer.

Background and Objectives: The cancer of the pancreatic head and Ampulla of Vater is a malignant disease usually seen in advanced stages with symptoms caused by stomach and biliary obstruction. Curative treatment is possible in the early stage. Unfortunately, most symptomatic patients are in the advanced stage and have an unrespectable tumor; therefore, they should undergo palliative surgery. T...

Background: Cholangiocarcinoma is an invasive biliary malignancy with poor prognosis. Diagnostic accuracy of conventional methods is low which is mainly due to the specific anatomy of the disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of biochemical profile and tumor marker of the bile in patients with malignant cholestasis compared to that of choledocholithiasis. ...

Abstract Background and objectives: Bile in healthy people is a sterile fluid and presence of any microorganism can be a marker for a disorder like cholelithiasis. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of bacterial agents in the bile of patients with bilestone, malignant pancreatic and biliary diseases. Material and Methods: One hundred and two bile samples were obtained, during ...

Introduction: Cyfra 21 is a serum-soluble fragment of cytokeratin19. Increased Cyfra 21 serum levels and their benefit as a tumor marker have been shown in some malignancies. This study aimed to evaluate the serum levels of Cyfra 21 in patients with benign and malignant salivary gland tumors. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the serum level of Cyfra 21 in 44 patients with m...
